GG Allin - Res-Erected

In 1999 ROIR decided to "res-erect" (get it?) the legendary scumfuc on CD. In the end what we have is yet another poorly recorded album of live tracks from anywhere and everywhere. Plus the extra added bonus of interview clips where GG explains his desire for violence and bloodshed. A decent enough release for GG fans, but there are a lot better ones out there.

Buzzcocks - Lest We Forget

Recorded throughout the U.S. in 1979-80, this release from U.K. punk legends the Buzzcocks was released in 1988. I must confess I've never been a huge fan of the Buzzcocks, but this is a good collection of live tracks.

V/A - The End Of Music (As We Know It)

One thing ROIR did quite well was capture what was going on underground. This 1988 compilation showcases the NOISE NOISE NOISE that was going on in New York and beyond. Really good in small doses. The always clever Mr. Biafra even makes an appearance.

GG Allin - Hated In The Nation

Yep, our old pal GG showed up on ROIR too. And actually this collection, originally released on cassette in 1987, is quite good if you're a GG fan. Lot's of early "hits" that helped solidify his legend, interspersed with live banter that gives a small taste of what a GG Allin show was like. And this here is technically the CD re-issue that has a few extra treats.

U.K. Subs - Left For Dead - Alive In Holland '86

Another great live release that somehow hasn't found its way here yet. The U.K. Subs belt out an amazing set in 1986.

The Dickies - We Aren't The World

Another worthy repost today. And I don't know about you, but after the Christian Death post we really needed something to perk us up around here. Well, here is the polar opposite. The prop comedy of the Dickies. So let's all stick a finger in our ear and sing along!

Christian Death - The Decomposition Of Violets - Live In Hollywood

It's a Sad Sunday today, courtesy of this Christian Death release. All tracks recorded live in 1984 and released the following year. Good, but depressing.

V/A - World Class Punk

Another ROIR compilation today. And this time we're going worldwide. Released in 1984, it features 27 bands from 25 countries. And certainly not just no names. There are some heavyweights included. BGK, CCM, Ratos De Perao, Dezerter, and on and on. A good comp. Gets a little squirrly on Side B, but still well worth it.

Flipper - Blow'n Chunks

We're back to CBGB, but this time with Frisco's Flipper. A re-post, and a damn good one at that. Distorted, smacked out mayhem.

MC5 - Babes In Arms

Right now it's time to kick out the jams, motherfuckers! We take our first trip outside of NYC this month and visit Detroit legends the MC5. Their ROIR offering was released in 1983 and compiles outtakes, demos and such. A great great band!!

V/A - New York Thrash

Another re-post today. But it's also worthy of a re-post in my opinion. A great collection of New York (and one NJ) bands. Easily one of my favorite ROIR releases.

Germs - Germicide - Live At The Whisky

Every once in a while you just gotta listen to the Germs. It's good for the soul. Better, even, than chicken soup, I bet. This 1981 release features a very young Mr. Crash and company. So young, in fact, that Darby was still calling himself Bobby Pyn. Great sloppy fun. Ah, youth!

Bad Brains - Self-Titled

Yes I've posted this before, and yes I'm posting it again. One of the finest examples of American Hardcore. A plastic chunk of history.

The Fleshtones - Blast Off!

Garage legends The Fleshtones started in 1976 and in one form or another kept it going for some 40 years now. Here's their 1982 offering.

Johnny Thunders - The New Too Much Junkie Business

In the interest of cohesion we jump ahead to 1983. The legendary Johnny Thunders belts out some classics, all recorded live throughout 1982. There's also the added bonus of Johnny's smacked out DJing.

New York Dolls - Lipstick Killers

I always loved the Dolls. And this is some rough and tough early recordings. Great to hear the stripped down early versions of classics.

Suicide - ½ Alive

Another early release here, from 1981. Cleverly titled because half the tape is live and half is studio. Sadly the title now describes the band, as Alan Vega left us last year. Incredibly minimalistic. A perfect example of what can happen when you give two guys a synthesizer, a microphone and way too much heroin.

The Dictators - Fuck 'Em If They Can't Take A Joke

So, I believe it was last year that I used that old March - Lion - Lamb saying for a theme. We'll kinda do that again this year, but only focus on half of it this time around. Specifically, we're focusing on the lion's mighty roar. Only, for our purposes we're spelling it ROIR. Now, I do realize they're still in business so I hope we're able to make it through the month without having to either cease or desist. We'll see how it goes.

Anyway, to start the month we dive right into the mean streets of New York City. ROIR put this hunk of plastic and tape out in 1981 as one of their first. Street tough 70's punk. A classic.
