V/A - Built For Speed - A Motörhead Tribute

Let's end this month as LOUD as we possibly can! This is a very good Motörhead tribute from 1999. Loud and heavy, just as you would expect.

V/A - Mayhem Without Mercy - A Hardcore Punkrock Tribute To Venom

I've mentioned before I've always dug Venom. Even when us punkers weren't supposed to like metalheads. Well, this is quite an entertaining tribute in my opinion.

V/A - No Shit... It's GG Allin & The Jabbers Tribute

The Jabbers will forever be known as "GG's First Band". Which is, of course true. But they actually put out some pretty decent stuff. And GG could actually still sing. Well, Swedish label Crippled Tickler put this together with lots of scuzzy punk bands doing Jabbers tunes. There's also 4 new recordings featuring the reformed Jabbers with ex-Queer Wimpy singing.

And, speaking of GG, there's another tribute out there that I haven't gotten my hands on yet. It's the 'Tribute With Two Heads' Split 7" with The Meatmen & ANTiSEEN released a couple years ago. Anyone have it digitally? Please?!

V/A - For Those About To Rawk - A Punk Tribute To AC/DC

Well if yesterday pissed you off I'm sure today will too. But sorry, Cleopatra Records put out some decent tributes. This being one. Much like the Nirvana tribute this has studs like Angry Samoans, Dwarves and Dayglo Abortions. Good stuff, I'm tellin' ya!

Cleopatra released a NOFX Tribute in 2002 called "Tribbed". I haven't been able to find it. Anyone out there have it by chance? BROOOOOOOTTT!!

They also released a tribute to Metallica which I will NOT post here simply because I don't wish to have any of those jack-asses music on here. But it sadly is a good comp, if you can get your hands on it.

V/A - Smells Like Bleach - A Punk Tribute To Nirvana

OK kids, settle down. Before you get all pissy let me explain. Love 'em or hate 'em, Nirvana put out some good stuff. And they deserve to be "Tributed"(?!). And the fact that Cleopatra Records put together some punk heroes like the U.K. Subs, D.O.A., Dr. Know and even Dee Dee Frickin' Ramone makes this a damn good collection.

V/A - We Will Bury You - A Tribute To Killdozer

This massive 2 disc set gets a bit tedious at times. I guess that just proves anyone can make a ton of noise. But not everyone can make it cool, like Killdozer did. Still, it's an impressive collection.

Here's a loud tribute to one of the greatest hardcore bands of all times. It's got tastes of punk, hardcore, metal and... Moby?! A solid tribute.

Black Fag - Self-Titled

This has got to be one of the best tributes of all time. Black Fag does a fantastic job "sissying-up" Black Flag classics. Great stuff!

Dirty Projectors - Rise Above

Somewhere along the way I stumbled on to the Dirty Projectors doing a cover of Thirsty & Miserable. Though not really my thing, I researched a little and found out they did a whole album of covers from the Damaged LP. Well, I had to find that, right? Again, the music is not really my taste, but what an interesting idea.

V/A - Rise Above - 24 Black Flag Songs To Benefit The West Memphis Three

We're spending a couple days behind The Bars. We start with a tribute album that is actually a benefit album as well. The cause being something that was incredibly important and necessary. Everything finally worked out to the good there, for the most part. So now we're left with this great album. The Rollins Band supplied the backing music while all stars bust out Black Flag classics. There's some heavyweights here: Lemmy, Iggy, Tom Araya and of course Henry. An excellent collection.

Bigger, indeed! Another great, in-your-face collection of PI covers. This one is from 1996.

V/A - Discharged

A few days ago I mentioned how I liked some of the bands that do poppy, melodic takes of punk classics. Yeah, that doesn't happen here! This is a full on crusty tribute from 1992.

Alright, we're gonna crank it up this weekend, starting with this chunk of bad-assery from 1998. Great stuff!

V/A - Out Of Step - A Minor Threat Tribute

Here's a massive 32 song tribute to Minor Threat. It's a great collection with some really good takes on classics. The one unfortunate thing is that (not counting cover tunes MT released) there are only two songs that for one reason or another didn't make the cut, Look Back & Laugh and Sob Story. Although several songs are covered twice or even thrice. Oh well, Boo-Fuckin'-Hoo, right?

V/A - Violent World - A Tribute To The Misfits

The Misfits is another band that have had several tributes released in their honor. This one is from 1997 and has a very good collection of 14 bands. Worth it.

V/A - Germs (Tribute) - A Small Circle Of Friends

Here's a great tribute to Darby and company released in 1996. There's definitely some great stuff on this collection. Though I think what I like the most is the several bands that do catchy, poppy, melodic takes on the tunes. Now I love Darby and the Germs, but melodic they ain't!

V/A - We Will Fall - The Iggy Pop Tribute

Like the Ramones, Iggy has had plenty of tributes. This one is from 1997. Some famous people came out for the Iguana, like Joan Jett and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But there's some good punk bands too. It does drag a bit at times but overall it's a solid collection.

V/A - Gabba Gabba Hey - A Tribute To The Ramones

For some reason I want to say this was the first punk tribute album I bought. It's indeed a great collection. Released in 1991. There's been a bunch more Ramones tributes released since then, and maybe even a few before. But we'll just stick with this one for now.

V/A - City Rockers: A Tribute To The Clash

Here's a mostly entertaining 1999 tribute. Damn, the Clash made some good tunes. And there's some really good renditions here. And of course some duds. Heads up, Straight To Hell cuts off. I might be missing a song as well. Oh well, that's punk rock.

V/A - Never Mind The Sex Pistols Here's The Tribute

Keeping the Tribute theme going, How about a month of tributes. I debated dedicating a month to tribute releases, but what the hell. Let's do it.

To start, here's a decent 2000 tribute to the Pistols. Some real good stuff to chew on here.
