Circle Jerks - Golden Shower Of Hits

The Circle Jerks just kept pumping out the punk classics in the early 80's. To end the month I present their 3rd classic release, from 1983.

Sacred Denial - Extra Strength Tylenol Anyone?

Finally got hooked up with a digital copy of this a little while ago. Thank you, by the way. Sacred Denial from New Jersey.

Legal Weapon - No Sorrow

Today we have another band that for some reason I always forget about. Sure they turned into a boring ol' rock band by the late 80's but damn their early stuff, like this 1981 debut E.P., is just awesome.

Descendents - Two Things At Once

Time for a Friday double dip. In 1988 the Descendents re-released their early classics on one CD. Their full length 1982 debut 'Milo Goes To College' is coupled with the 1985 re-issue of the 'Fat E.P.' titled 'Bonus Fat' because it includes their first single and a comp track. So you could say it's three things at once. Confused? You won't be after this coffee infused blast.

RF7 - Fall In

I often forget how great this band is. RF7 released this fantastic EP in 1982.

Code Of Honor - Beware The Savage Jaw

San Francisco's Code Of Honor released this full length and broke up soon after. There's some really good stuff on this LP, but I can't decide how much I like it as a whole.

Plasmatics - Coup ďÉtat

I've got a guilty pleasure for everyone today. It's true, I've always had a soft spot for Wendy O.'s brand of insanity. Here she is at her best, from 1982.

Straw Dogs - Self-Titled

Something happened in the mid 80's in Boston. My theory is the "Boston Crew" boys happened upon a bunch of tickets to an AC/DC concert and went as a goof, but were instead blown away. Whatever the reason for the metalization of the Boston scene, while some bands jumped head first into the arena metal sound the F.U.'s did it a little differently. Their sound seemed to slowly migrate towards a more metal rock sound, all the while keeping their sense of humor. And when they were done transforming their sound they completely changed their named. And the Straw Dogs were born. Here's their debut E.P.

Big Black - The Rich Man's Eight Track Tape

My guess is you either love or hate Big Black. I'm also guessing they couldn't care less. Loud, abrasive and in your face. I find it quite brilliant, and oh so far from soothing!

Fall Down On Your Knees, Fall Down And Worship King Dick!

Stetz - Songs Of Experience

This 1986 release from New Jersey's Stetz is really two completely different records. Side A (Aristophanes) is typical NJHC with a good sense of humor. And Side B (Bodacious) is a mix of styles that leans heavily towards post punk. Something for everyone, really.

Poison Idea - Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes

Here's another 'why did it take so long?' post. Poison Idea's 1984 E.P. sees the band begin slowing and "heavy-ing"(?) their sound on the way to becoming the heavyweight champion kings of punk.
As is often the case I've included the reissue with bonus tracks here. Yet another must-have.

Cheers!

Suicidal Tendencies - Join The Army

Let's face it. It's damn tough to follow up Suicidal Tendencies first LP. The damn thing is a masterpiece. Well, here's how they did it. A heavy dose of Venice punk metal. A classic in its own right. S.T.!

Ugly Americans - Who's Been Sleeping... In My Bed

Durham, NC's Ugly Americans followed up what I thought was a great debut with this release in 1985. It lacks the hardcore punch and leans a bit more towards a metal sound.

Agression - Self-Titled

Oxnard skate punk legends Agression released this LP in 1985.

Drunk On Your Love

7Seconds - Walk Together, Rock Together

It was around this 1985 release that the whole "peace and love" approach of 7Seconds got a little boring for me. I still like this EP though.

Here's D.I.'s great second full length. From 1985. Still a favorite.

Bad Brains - Rock For Light

All Hail The Bad Brains! After its initial release in 1983 there were several different versions released over the next 10 years. And this is one of them.

Zero Boys - Vicious Circle

Paul Mahern and the Zero Boys originally gave us the awesome collection in 1981. This re-issue with extra tracks came later in the 80's. My dumb ass didn't post it until today!

Vandals - Peace Thru Vandalism

We're going to break out a 'sub-theme' this weekend, and that is "How The Hell Have I Not Posted This Already?!?" Today it's the Vandals debut EP from 1982. I mean really?! This is a six song masterpiece! Not to mention Anarchy Burger is only one of my most favorite songs ever. Great from top to bottom.

Belching Penguins - Draft Beer... Not Me

More good hardcore from Florida. These guys had a demo from '85 and this LP from '86.

Butthole Surfers - Cream Corn From The Socket Of Davis

The Surfers released this 17 minutes of weird in 1985. The drugs were really kicking in by then. No word on who actually started the rumor that Sidney Poitier was a blind man.

Mod Dirge - Get Out Of My Yard

OK, back to normal. In fact, back all the way to the reason I started all this. 80's Hardcore! And more specifically, U.S. hardcore.

We begin on the campus of Virginia Tech. This sucker was on my wish list for ages until finally my new best friend Terry came through. I just love this tape. Yes, 'Tape', even though it says 'LP'. I'm guessing almost no one out there has heard this but I strongly urge you to give it a try. Very entertaining.
