    1. It was a dream makin' 'em. All we could think about was here's amazing HC. How do we get it to people cheap before the Internet and computers which no one had any idea about. '83 to '86, 27 tapes, 149 bands, 17 countries. It was great fun.

    2. You're an awesome dude, Chris. Thanks for allowing us to do this. And I hope you don't mind that I added your commentary to the body of the posts. Kinda like a dvd extra.

    2. In our BCT catalog we specifically mentioned Charred Remains, Chainsaw, the 2 San Jose comps, No Core as inspirations for doin' BCT. Also Raw War and meathouse. Maybe birth defect too. I think Growing Pains, Painfull haircuts, annoy your neighbours and some others came from a few punx who contacted us and asked us tips on how to do tape comps and then, pop, out came their great tape comps. The key was to only use great songs cuz we noticed on some comps there'd be some songs that sucked and that really puzzled us. We tried hard to avoid that.

    1. We kept getting blow away by the music that came in the mail from bands to be on our comps. We made it a point to never edit a song and to use every song that ruled and not use the ones that didn't. On 11 and 12 there were a few songs that sorta slipped past us but they seemed cool at the time. We burnt out makin' the comps and what was the name of that little label in the Bay Area? Our friend's label, I gotta look at the tape sleeves, I can't find it but I'd recognize the name, we asked him if he'd take the last batch of band tapes and make some comps with them for us which he did for Car Crash Music and Experience the Freedom of Total Control. he did a great job too. After those tapes the next 30 were sluddy. Musically useless. It's why we quit makin' more bct tapes.

    2. yeah but I'll be at Westpack next week so it'll have to wait until the 16th when I get back or next day as I post at work. I think you've inspired again as I will be doing a metal/punk demo tape week of ten or so posts from a guy in St. Paul who picked out the tapes for me..I am assuming nineties or eighties era not sure.

    1. I was thinking the same thing way back then. Unfortunately I wasn't 14!

    2. We liked doin' those MRR ads. We'd also send like a tape and an ad to various zines, usually little ones, and they'd review the tape and run the ad. Then we printed every bct tape review we found and put it in the bct catalog so they could speak for themselves.

  11. Also we came up with the Bad Compilation Tapes name based on that SNL skit, "Verdy bad, yes, quite bad." even tho we thought about it for months about what to name the label. We used BCT a lot cuz, well, cuz. Then an Italian punk around 1985 suggested Borderless Countries Tapes and now that was the title we wanted. So we stuck with both. Cuz we could.

  15. Glad yer enjoying it Alannah. Even 30 years later the music still rips and I've never been one to want to hold onto stuff. That's pointless in this short life. Meanwhile, I noticed there's no song lists, only tape sleeve covers posted. I have photographed all 27 tape sleeve band and song lists from the tape sleeves but don't know where to send them. Is there a Dr. Drunk email I can forward them to or can I post them on each tape entry? I don't see a camera icon like on fb to do that on these posts. Lemme know how and I'll send them along. Should help counter that element of finding the music somewhere on-line but not the matching list of bands and songs. Again tho, anyone can go to the BCT website and find all that detailed info. Meanwhile, I'm re-posting the tape links onto my chris bct fb page. Cool, ya punx.

  16. I've posted the pics of tape sleeves 1 thru 6 on my chris bct fb page. Maybe someone can share them or transfer them or copy them or I dunno, to get 'em to this blog? Yow.
