Bad Religion - Christmas Songs

A fitting end to our Christmas celebration is this cd. What could be better than seasonal gospel hymns performed by renowned atheists? Not much, that's what! I also added the one-sided 'Father Christmas' and their take on Fear's 'Fuck Christmas' to round it out. God bless us, every one!

Joyful And Triumphant

And that'll do it for me. I'll see everyone in January.

Angry Snowmans

Today I'm filling your stockings full of awesome! The Angry Snowmans are the greatest Christmas-themed punk rock cover band ever! Period! Haven't had the pleasure? Here's their description from bandcamp:

Disgruntled, displaced Elves of the North Pole who are telling the world about Santa's abusive practices by playing classic punk rock songs. Started in 2008, there is no end in sight. Grab an eggnog and get your ass under that mistletoe! Ho-Ho-Ho- Let's Go!

Members:
Don Weenow - Guitar
Miss Eltoe - Bass
Mr. Coalfire - Guitar
Boughs Of Pauly - Drums
Elise Navidad - Bells, Vocals
Saint Dick - Vocals

Support these guys! I really hope they don't mind me giving their stuff away, But it's truly some of the best stuff I've heard in a long time. Enjoy! And if I eventually have to take it down, go buy it!

Fear - Anti-Christmas Celebration - Live On KPFK

The great Fear deliver this chunk of coal. From a 1985 radio broadcast. Unfortunately they censor themselves, but they get their point across just fine.

Re-Gift!!

First up today we have a Christmas repost. A 're-gift', if you will. Sloppy Seconds with a sad Christmas tale, 3 non holiday tracks and a Hooray finale.

And we're calling this Showcase Showdown 7" a "re-gift" since the first song was on the 'Cashing In On Christmas' comp. The second song was on there too, but by a different band.

Regarding Requests

Yep, I've managed to let the requests pile up yet again. I'm not ignoring you, just be patient. I'm lazy and slow. I hope to complete everyone's Christmas list by the end of the year. Then I'll start fresh putting off new requests in January.

V/A - Cashing In On Christmas, Vol. 1

Here's a great collection of yuletide favorites from some snot-nosed 90's punks. A great collection, and Merry Stupid Fucking Christmas to you all!!

Vandals - Oi! To The World

The Vandals have been rockin' and rollin' since 1980. Granted, only one member remains from 1980, and he technically wasn't there at the very beginning, but they have kept us entertained in one form or another. In fact those "forms" have varied wildly over the years. This is their punk homage to Christmas. A beautiful collection, really. I defy you to listen to Christmas Time For My Penis without shedding a tear!

Saccharine Trust - A Christmas Cry 7"

So if you think I've been phoning it in this month wait until you see today's post. A one sided single! Saccharine Trust from 1982. Man these dudes are weird. I mean, I dig 'em and all, but... damn!

The Misfits aren't just for Halloween any more. This 2013 7" puts a nice 'fits spin on the Grinch and Elvis, plus add a new original.

Alcoholics Unanimous - Santa Claus: DWI 7"

Today we have two sad Christmas songs. First song explains why there'll be no presents for you and I. And the second is simply an angry rant because "that fat hairy fucker forgot the booze".

These rotten bastards released this yuletide chestnut in 1991. Great angry, scummy fun!

Crass - Merry Crassmas 7"

Who says Anarchists can't have fun? Crass released this heart-warming slab of holiday cheer in 1981. It's a medley of several of their smash hits played simply on a Casio. And I guess if you sent a postcard listing all the songs you'd win some bath salts or even Exploited singles. Crazy anarchists!

Crucial Youth - Crucial Yule 7"

Crucial Youth released this Christmas 7" in 1988. A great Holiday re-working of Iron Cross & Stormtroopers Of Death. Plus, much like 'Hair Of The Dog' from Monday's compilation, they include Jonathan Richmond's not-Christmas-related 'I'm Straight'. A good fun record indeed.

V/A - Do Not Open Till Christmas

This Canadian compilation with the oh so heartwarming cover kicks off our month long Christmas celebration. Fair warning, posts are going to be a bit more sparse than usual as I celebrate the birth of our lord and savior, Shane MacGowan. He has yet to fully die for our sins but he damn sure seems to be trying! (editors note: I picked him because he was born on Dec. 25th. That's all).

Anyway, I found this one over in Melonville some time ago. And it's as good a place to start as any. An interesting collection to say the least. Much like a huge holiday dinner with the family, there's bound to be a couple people at the table you don't like. But overall, you're glad you came. Fourteen Pacific Northwest bands singing sixteen Christmas songs. Well, actually fifteen. One band does Nazareth's 'Hair Of The Dog'. A Christmas classic, right?

4-Skins + Infa Riot - Live And Loud!! Split

Let's end the month with a Live And Loud Split. In the mid 90's Step-1 Records began releasing some of the Live And Loud series as split cd's. This 1993 cd brings together the 4-Skins '89 release and Infa Riot's '88 offering.

Anti-Nowhere League - Live And Loud!!

England's Link Records began releasing Live And Loud records in 1987. They include some of the absolute heavyweights of English punk and Oi! No, I'm not posting every damn one of them. But that is what you're gonna hear this weekend. First up we have those loveable scumbags the Anti-Nowhere League. Originally released in 1990.

Dickies - We Aren't The World

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Dickies. American super heroes born in 1997 and still rockin' out with their Stuart out in 2014. This 1986 ROIR cassette has all the classics we've come to know and love. This, my friends, is what we should be thankful for. And, just so you know, it clearly states on the back cover:
"Absolutely none of the band's proceeds from the sale of this cassette will go to Ethiopia." - Leonard Graves Philipps

I guess you would have to consider this an 'official bootleg' since it's downloadable on their website. Excellent sound quality, excellent set.

Social Distortion - Live At The Roxy

You can't really argue Social Distortions place in punk rock history. Sure they're mostly a rock band with country and punk influences at this stage, but they've had one rich history. This 1998 release is basically a massive 'best of' recorded live. A great set from a truly great band.

Articles Of Faith - Live At Riot Fest 2010

The mighty and powerful Articles Of Faith were dusted off and put back together for Riot Fest 2010. And the world became a better place because of it! I also understand they recorded a new EP. Haven't heard it tho.

Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School Of Medicine - Live At Riot Fest 2010

Riot Fest is a (mostly) punk music festival that was born in Chicago in 2005. It has since spread to other cities. This weekend I've got a couple live sets from the 2010 weekend.

First up we go from the Dead Kennedy's Wednesday all the way to the other end of Jello Biafra's career. Jello & The G.S.M. started some time in the late aughts and I believe they're still active today. If you haven't heard them yet their overall sound won't surprise you. But I strongly suggest you give it a listen. It's pretty damn good in my opinion.

Dead Kennedy's - Live At The Earth Tavern, Portland, OR 11.19.79

Wanna hear something depressing. This show happened 35 years ago today. THIRTY FIVE!!!! Damn we're getting old! Anyway, here's Jello and the boys doing what they do best. It's actually two shows from their 1979 trip to Portland. One for the kiddies and one for the grown ups. Jello is of course his obnoxiously clever self. Highly entertaining and good quality too. I just found out you can actually see video of at least the early show on youtube. Just search. Sorry I don't have the link. Link in comments.

Alternative Tentacles can prevent us from posting their DK releases, but they can't stop the bootlegs. At least I don't think so. Can they? Guess we'll find out.

Agnostic Front - Live At CBGB

Now let's focus on East Coast bad asses. Agnostic Front did a pretty good job of epitomizing the New York street tough persona. They busted out some pretty good tunes too. I always enjoyed seeing them live. This high powered set was released in 1989.

Suicidal Tendences - Live At The Cathay De Grande 09.16.83

Neighborhood Watch - Reunion Show At The Anti Club, LA, CA 1992

Venice, Ca was the home of some bad mo-fos. Neighborhood Watch was among them. They only released one EP back in 1983 then were gone. However they got back together for an evening of fun back in 1992 at the Anti Club. And I believe they released some new stuff in 2013. And here I am begging again. Can anyone help the good doctor out... again!

Angry Samoans - Live At Rhino Records

As the 70's turned to the 80's the Angry Samoans decided to speed things up for a couple years, releasing a couple hardcore classics. Before that they cranked out some fun and obnoxious punk. This release, although from 1990, was recorded in 1979 and presents the band in all their fun and obnoxious punk glory.

V/A - Confederacy Of Scum Supershow Live '97

The Confederacy Of Scum was, and still is, a group of good ol' boys and girls that put out loud and mean punk rock. Back in the late 90's they put on a yearly "Supershow". I never had the pleasure of going to one. Too bad, sounds like it was a helluva good time. This CD is from the '97 show and it includes Rancid Vat, Hellstomper, Limecell, Conqueror Worm, Cocknoose and of course ANTiSEEN. Yee-motherfuckin-Haw!!

White Flag - Feeding Frenzy

White Flag was once described by Maximum Rock N Roll as punks' answer to Frank Zappa. A pretty good comparison when you think about it. Anyway, this is the legendary 3 Sided LP from a legendary band. Although this is considered a live album it's isn't entirely live. But really, from a metaphysical standpoint, are any of us really entirely live?

N.O.T.A. - Live At The Crystal Pistol 7"

Lunachicks - Drop Dead Live

So far we've spent most of the month in the late 70's and very early 80's. Today we jump way up into the 90's. The Lunachicks could really bring the rock! A great live set released in 1998.

A Request

Here's something I've been searching for unsuccessfully. Do any of you wonderful people out there have Crass - You'll Ruin It For Everyone? I found it a couple places, but they were incomplete or otherwise screwed up. I just think that is a 'must post' this month.

Well dammit that took no time at all. Thanks go to Ruben and, guess who, of course Francois. And a late addition adds my old buddy Ash to the thank you list. I will make a real post of it here in the next couple days.

Sid Vicious - Sid Sings!

So, between the death of the Sex Pistols and the death of Nancy Spungen Sid Vicious tried his hand as front man. This 1979 release documents, primarily, his short stint at Max's Kansas City. For those that haven't heard it yet, it delivers exactly what yo would expect. That is, loud, sloppy, abrasive punk rock. And I think it's an important page in punk history. Whew! That's a lot of live stuff to start the month! I think I'll take tomorrow off.

V/A - 'Live From The Masque' Compilations

Back in 1996 Year One Records, a label I know absolutely about and if Discogs.com is correct only put out 4 releases, compiled these 3 great live CD's chronicling the all to brief history of the L.A. clum the Masque. Volume One has 24 songs fro the Weirdos, Bags, Germs and Skulls. Volume Two has 22 songs from F-Word, Alley Cats, X and Zeroes. And finally, Volume Three gives us 20 songs from Eyes, Dickies, Randoms and the always entertaining Black Randy & The Metrosquad. By the way, the fourth release on Year One Records was apparently a CD of Exene Cervenka recites exerpts from the Unabomber Manifesto. That sounds quite interesting to me. Anyone have it by chance?
