Aging Youth Gang - Mohawks & Maalox

We end the month of October with a release Not from the 80's, NOT from the 90's, but from the wild & woolly 'aughts'! How would I describe A.Y.G.? I wouldn't. I would lift the following quote from their Facebook page:

Aging Youth Gang is straight up old school punk rock. The stuff your mom was telling you about when you wanted to get that tattoo. Four old fart's playing what they love and what they know and that's punk rock.

Great, fun Canadian punk rock. Perhaps the best CD title of all time and also a great cover. Really captures the feel, doesn't it?

Minor Threat/Youth Brigade - Demo's Split

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, several D.C. youths formed Youth Brigade as well. Though not as prolific or as long-standing as their California counterparts, they helped build the 'harD.C.ore' sound. Here's some early 80's demos from them and the mighty Minor Threat, released in 2001.

Youth Brigade - Sink With Kalifornija

In 1980 the Stern brothers, Shawn, Mark and Adam, formed Youth Brigade in Los Angeles. They also founded the prolific label Better Youth Organization. Over the next 15 years or so the band released several influential records and the label is still releasing music today. Damn, and to think me and my brother spent our formative "punk" years just sitting around drinking and getting high. The band released Sound & Fury, a friggin' masterpiece, in 1982. I was going to post that. They released a fantastic 7", What Price Happiness?, in 1984. I was going to post that. Instead, I decided to post 'Sink With Kalifornija', a 1994 compilation that contains both of those releases plus a killer live set. Why? because you guys are worth it!

Cycotic Youth - 1986 Demo

Here's another group of Venice Beach thugs ripping thru some good, fast hardcore with a definite angry edge. Great stuff. This is all I've heard from them, although I believe they have two other demos out there. Anyone have them?

Youth Against Fascism - Libertad Y Justicia Para Quien? 7"

Ripping fast hardcore from Chicago, circa 1995. Sorry, but I know nothing else about the band. Good record, tho.

Youth Crew Day 1

Screw it, let's dive right in now. Here's three New York band that flew the 'Youth Crew' flag. Fast, united ....and straight. I liked the music but honestly I always thought they kinda took life, and themselves a little too seriously. And also, no drinking?!? That's just crazy talk!!!

Crippled Youth - Join The Fight 7"

Let's dip our toes a little deeper in the Youth Crew pool today. Crippled Youth formed in 1985. After releasing this 7" in 1986 they changed their name to Bold and continued releasing albums throughout the 80's.

Youth Of Today - Break Down The Walls

Time for us to hang out on the mean streets of New York City for a little while longer. Youth Of Today is one of the many 'Youth Crew' bands that sprouted up in the mid to late 80's and they bring it fast and mean. This is their second release, from 1986.

Youth Defense League - Skinheads '88

Youth Defense League was an American Oi! band from NYC. Though not overtly racist, many believe they were. Like it or not, here's their 1988 demo.

Ciccione Youth - The Whitey Album

And here's a Sonic side-project, released in 1988. Weird.

Hi! Everybody!

Sonic Youth - 100% 7"

OK, so if anything is going to get my mediafire account suspended, it'll be today's. I was never a huge SY fan, although I respect their place on the musical landscape. I do, however, love the song 100%. So here's the 4-song single released in 1992.

Wasted Youth - Get Out Of My Yard

Earlier this month we discussed what can happen when a band that records one of your all-time favorite albums gets around to releasing a second one after a few years of "musical growth". Results, as seen in Boston, can be disastrous. Some may lump L.A.'s Wasted youth into that discussion. Although this 1986 release lacks the intense hardcore fury of their debut, I personally think it's an excellent release.

Youth In Asia - Sex Object

Youth In Asia released this rough-sounding cassette in 1983. If I'm not mistaken this is their only actual release, along with on track from Bullshit Detector II. Female-fronted U.K. Anarcho, baby!

Pleased Youth - Dangerous Choo Choo

I first heard Pleased Youth on the New Jersey's Got It comp, and loved their tracks on there. Unfortunately, this LP isn't nearly as good as those tracks. The songs go from pretty good to pretty boring.

N.J.'s Crucial Youth play over the top (tongue in cheek) straight edge. This is their debut, from 1987.

(Impatient) Youth - Don't Listen

And now here's some good late 70's punk from the U.S. California to be exact. This album was released in 1988 but recorded well before that. Here's some info on the band. Very catchy stuff.

Unwanted Youth - Self-Titled

Unwanted Youth was late 80's German band. I know nothing else about them. This is their only release, from 1988. After a strange and oddly out of place intro this gets into some pretty damn good hardcore with a crossover feel.

Youth Korps - '82 7"

Here's some amazing non-stop hardcore from this short lived Connecticut band. They never had a proper release. This was a demo recorded in (when?) 1982 but wasn't released until '91. Excellent! Kinda reminds me of early Poison Idea, and you KNOW that's not a bad thing!

Chaotic Youth - Sad Society 7"

Here's some excellent U.K. punk from 1983. I believe this was their only release.

No Future

Side Notes

Due to hectic happenings in the ol' doctor's personal life I'm forced to go dark for a while. But don't worry, I've scheduled my usual 'Post-A-Day' for at least a couple of weeks. The only reason I mention this to you is that the last time I did this I discovered, upon my return, that a guy in New Zealand got arrested, resulting in new posts going nowhere. Fair warning, if this should happen again I apologize and will rectify the situation when possible.

Also, what do I find on my blog this morning? Over 100,000 views?!? That's a whole lot of peoples time I've wasted. I apologize to their families and friends. But thank you all the same, and as a final word, ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

Malignus Youth - Self-Titled 7"

Malignus Youth was a band out of, I believe, Arizona. Good fast hardcore. It reminds me of the mid-80's midwest sound. Sluggo comes to mind.

Demented Youth - Better Homes Demo

If you've heard Demented Youth on the Not So Quiet On The Western Front comp then you know exactly what to expect from this group of kids from San Francisco. This is loud, noisy and chaotic!

Bored Youth - Touch & Go 7"

Bored Youth was another furious Michigan band. Quite frankly, they sound more pissed to me than bored. This 7" was originally recorder in 1981 but not released until 1990.

Youth Quake - It's Up To Us Demo

Youth Quake was an aggressive hardcore band out of Pennsylvania. They never had a proper release and this demo unfortunately suffers from a muddy quality. I was also never able to find an actual cover, so I lifted their symbol from a flyer I found online. For info on this and many other bands from Pennsylvania follow this link. Quite informative.

D.Y.S. - Fire & Ice

One of my all-time favorite records has to be the debut E.P. from D.Y.S. Damn that was a great chunk of vinyl. So their second release has to kick ass too, right? Well......... I guess that's a matter of opinion. So, for historical purposes I present the D.Y. S. release that broke my heart.

Manson Youth - God's Fun Children 7"

Here's another early 80's California hardcore outfit. They recorded 2 7"s that weren't released until the 90's. This is their second 7", recorded in the mid 80's but relesed in 1991. Good hardcore.

Youth Youth Youth - Repackaged

The few of you out ther that actually pay attention to this nonsense have no doubt noticed that whenever possible I've tried to follow certain silly themes as this blog progresses. This month should be no different. Since October happens to be the month of my birth I've decided the theme this month wil be something I lost all too long ago. That would be - YOUTH.

To start, I present the complete output of the Canadian powerhouse Youth Youth Youth. Originally released in 1989, this includes the previously posted Sin EP as well as two demos. Great stuff.
